Fort Smith author David C. Boyd will appear at the Main Library to promote and sign copies of his book, No God West of Fort Smith.   This work of historical fiction details two 19th Century murders in the Indian Territory. The information was taken from the actual transcript and testimony in Judge Parker’s court. Fictional main character Deputy U.S. Marshal Bell investigates the cases and hunts down the men responsible for the murders. 

David C. Boyd is a fifth generation Fort Smithian whose paternal grandmother was born at Shady Point, Indian Territory where her family farmed. Mr. Boyd was employed at the Fort Smith Police Department from 1975 until his retirement in 2014. He was then employed as a Senior Criminal Investigator by the State of Arkansas to investigate alcohol, tobacco, & medical marijuana criminal and civil cases. He retired that employment in 2024. He is currently employed by the Fort Smith Public Schools Police Department as an auxiliary part-time officer, rounding out 50 years of law enforcement experience. In his off time, he writes historical fiction books about Judge Parker’s court, the U.S. Marshals, and outlaws of the Indian Territory. Copies of No God West of Fort Smith and other books by the author will be available for sale and signing at the event.
