Summer Reading

The Fort Smith Public Library’s annual summer reading program for kids, teens, and adults has moved online!  The program is one of the many ways the library works to create a community of readers and library users.  Through fun themes, activities, and prizes, the summer reading program offer incentives for spending time reading or listening to books.  The summer reading program begins June 1 and runs through August 14.  Participants should register online at http://fortsmithlibrary.readsquared.com/. The Arkansas State Library is providing READsquared with CARES Act funding.

The summer reading club is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services to the Arkansas State Library under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act.  Additional funding is provided by the Friends of the Library.

Children’s Summer Reading Program

The children’s summer reading program has moved online!. The program encourages reading for pleasure and is designed to minimize summer learning loss.  The goal of the summer reading program is to keep kids actively engaged in reading while encouraging family involvement. Preschool children too young to read independently can also participate.  Because the best way to raise a reader is to read to a child, they will receive credit for the books read to them.

Children will earn one point for every minute spent reading or listening to books.  A LIBRARY PRIZE BAG filled with goodies will be awarded at 1000 points.  Readers and listeners will also be entered to win an end-of-summer grand prize.  Register, track your reading progress, and earn badges online at  https://fortsmithlibrary.readsquared.com/.  You will also be able to download the READsquared app (available for iOS and Android devices).
