Windsor Drive Branch Manager

Brief Job Description:

The Branch Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the neighborhood branch library, including supervising, scheduling, and training staff; planning programs and participating in outreach for children, teens, and adults; ensuring a welcoming environment and providing a quality user experience to customers; interpreting library policies and procedures for customers and staff; and participating in collection development.  The person in this position works under the supervision of the library director and assistant director.  As a member of the library’s leadership team, the branch manager also works with other branch managers, department heads, and the library director on library-wide projects, issues, and initiatives.

Education and experience:  A bachelor’s degree is required with preference for a master’s degree, especially an MLS or other library-related degree.  At least one year of professional library experience and demonstrated management experience is desired. 

Skills and aptitudes:  The ideal candidate for this position is customer focused, possesses strong customer service skills, is confident with technology, works well with the public (especially children and teens), has experience with and an appreciation of diverse cultures and ages, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.  A positive attitude toward library staff and the public, the ability to positively represent the library in the community, flexibility, strong organization and planning skills, an eye for detail, the ability to manage multiple projects, and proven success as a team leader and team member are other essential skills.   

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications; minimum salary: $40,000.  This is a full-time, salaried position with a 37 ½ hour work week.  In addition, the Fort Smith Public Library offers a competitive package of benefits including health insurance, paid vacation, paid holidays, and paid retirement.

Part-time barista at Dewey’s Café

Brief Job Description:

The Fort Smith Public Library has an immediate opening for a part-time barista at Dewey’s Café at the Main Library. Duties include taking customer orders, handling money, food prep/service, baking, and preparing coffee/specialty drinks. The café is looking for a dependable and self-motivated individual who learns fast and can work reliably with minimal supervision. This position works up to 20 hours a week; current Café hours are 8 AM to 5:30 PM weekdays and 9 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturday.  This is a great job for mature high school or college students. Pay is $12/hour.

Part-time (morning) Custodian - Main Library

Brief Job Description:

The Fort Smith Public Library has an immediate opening for a part-time morning custodian at the Main Library. The person will work four hours a day, Monday through Friday from 7 – 11 AM. Pay is $12/hour. This inside position is an excellent opportunity for someone needing a second job or wanting to work just a few hours a day.

Main duties include vacuuming and emptying trash before the library opens.  Cleaning and sanitizing of all types including restrooms, floors, and windows; dusting; sweeping and mopping may also be required. Meeting room setup is also included. Some travel to Fort Smith Public Library branch locations may be required.

The person in this position must be personable, dependable, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently. They should have knowledge of cleaning supplies, procedures, and techniques. Previous custodial experience is a definite plus.

This active position requires walking and standing for the entire shift, with some light lifting and the ability to carry up to 50 pounds occasionally required.
