Transcendurance
by
Doug Warnock

Transcendurance sculpted by Doug Warnock Transcendurance-a compound word inspired by the two qualities that best exemplify the struggles and achievements of the people of Fort Smith over the years: transcendence and endurance. The sculpture's form, an ax head standing on it's edge, visually identifies with elements in Fort Smith's richly unique cultural and economic history from the indigenous Mississippian culture's use of primitive tools to the days of trapping and trading by Native American and European settlers. Water flows out of the eleven foot tall bronze sculpture's interior onto an organically shaped base which contains bronze figures designed by Fort Smith children. Starting at the sculpture and leading to the new building, the individual letters of the title move visitors toward the repository of vast sources of historic information, general knowledge, enjoyment and pleasure-the library. We invite everyone to come by the main library and enjoy this unique sculpture. See more pictures below.
